Racing Car Driver Charlie Kimball at e-Patient Connections 2009

And there’s a good reason for it.
In 2007, Kimball was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and was forced to abandon his racing program mid season. Remarkably in 2008, Kimball returned to the cockpit in Formula 3 and claimed a podium finish in his first race back in the car. Kimball has continued to prove that living with diabetes does not have to restrict him in any way.
Charlie has spent the last few years racing in some of the most competitive racing categories in the world including British Formula 3, Formula 3 Euroseries and the World Series by Renault. He continues to be competitive each time he gets behind the wheel of a racing car.
Come hear his story, and how he’s sharing with others on twitter.
Special Presentation by e-Patient Dave at e-Patient Connections 2009
October 21, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Diagnosed in 2007 with Stage IV, Grade 4 kidney cancer, e-Patient Dave deBronkart learned it had metastasized to both lungs, several bones (eventually snapping his leg), and his tongue, and his median survival time was 24 weeks. Using the internet in every way possible, he learned everything he could, joined an expert patient group on ACOR, built a social network on CaringBridge, and shared his online medical records with anyone who could help.
He beat the odds.
Having faced death, he asked himself what he’d do with his “free replay” in life. He became a healthcare blogger and joined the e-patient movement, where he’s one of the most outspoken advocates for patient engagement. Dave is also now a Founding Co-Chair of the Society for Participatory Medicine. Last month he launched a healthcare consulting practice, and the September issue of Health Leaders features him in the cover story, “The Patient of the Future.”
